Creative, Quick And Easy Adult Halloween Costume Ideas

By Jeff Wallace

Halloween Costumes Extraordinaire For Adults
When it comes to Halloween costumes for adults, it may be all trial and tribulation figuring out how to create a really different costume that hasn't been worn before. So, it's important to ratchet up the creative juices to put together a costume for Halloween that is truly "you". It's pretty amazing which of the ordinary household items can be used for that extraordinary costume idea. Most of the extras, if needed, can be easily found in fabric stores or even in the children's toy departments. The first and most essential item on the list of creating the perfect costume is planning. The costume should be comfortable enough to wear for a few hours at least. It should also give a hint of the more creative side of the wearer. Adult costumes can go from outrageously racy to hugely inventive. Grab a piece of paper and a pen and start costume planning.

Creative and Quick For Costume Ideas
Scavenge around the house for old pjs, glittery bits of foil gift paper, bows, large buttons, even holiday ornaments and those long garlands in green, silver, gold and pastel colors. Creating a quick and inventive adult costume can be as simple as using a red body suit and tights adorned with garlands of shaped pasta as part of the Trick or Treat"menu". Spray paint the pasta red and allow to dry to create a Halloween meal worthy of a prize. Don't forget to create a Parmesan topping with a coiled snowy white garland.

Or, go for a candy corn costume. This is another creative, yet quick, costume to put together. Use an orange body suit and tights. Then, just add a white tri-cornered hat made from ordinary paper that may be glued to cardboard. For the ladies, choose a wide orange skirt or cut cardboard into two triangular shapes and spray paint a bright dayglo orange. Use ordinary coat hangers sewn on either side of the skirt to keep the triangle shape.

Ghostly, Gory and Ghoulish
It's fairly easy to create one's own tombstone for adult costumes. Two large cardboard slabs can be spray painted grey. Don't forget to add glitter spray in an eerie green shade for extra sparkle. Paint RIP on it and layer it over a body suit or comfortable slacks and shirt.

Although adding "slime" accessories may seem difficult, it can actually be quite fun. Use white candle wax that has been melted and allowed to dry in long droplets. Attach to a filmy opaque material with a glue gun. This should be worn long over the entire body or as a headpiece. Carry an old candleholder with melted candle for added effect.

For a cobra costume, you'll need a green body suit. Try adding sequin raffia for a more reptilian design. Find a snug fitting cap that fits over the entire head. To this, sew an additional four to six inches of green material to cover the neck. Decorate the cap and neck piece with green glitter or large coin-sized sequins in green. Use green makeup for the face and hands. Glue smaller sequins to the face with a non-toxic paste.

It's pretty easy to create gory and ghoulish costumes for Halloween. The most unusual are those that haven't been seen before. Check libraries for characters that are lesser known in the world of goblins and ghouls. Or create a completely different version. For Mr. and Mrs. Ghoul costumes, scour second-hand shops for a tuxedo or morning coat and ordinary starched white shirt. Look for a blood red tie or cravat. Cravats can be made from a silk scarf. Add an old top hat and cane. Glue a wolf's head or devil figure to the cane for drama.

Part of Mrs. Ghoul's costume can also be found in the second-hand shops. Look for a glitzy gown in a large size. Mrs. Ghoul is "expecting" and an old large, inflated beach ball or basketball attached beneath the gown will make the coming event more realistic. A cape for this costume may be fashioned from a few yards of fabric in ghoulish colors. Use a deadly color grey makeup or a more ghastly white shade. Muss up the hair and Mr. and Mrs. Ghoul are ready for Halloween in style.

The Gory Surgery Gone Wrong
One way to create a gory costume is by preparing the "patient" for surgery. All that's needed for this costume is a large white sheet, single bed size and a shower cap. Cut a hole in the direct center of the sheet so that it fits over the head. The only other effect needed is a dollup of artificial blood on the front of the sheet. Leave a trail of blood droplets. Then attach "surgical" needle and stray threads.
